The soccer stadium Jämtkraft Arena is a recent contribution to Östersund´s sports arenas. It opened in 2007, and holds 5,000 spectators.

The steamship Thomée has travelled the waters of Storsjön since 1880.

People have lived on Frösön and by Storsjön for several thousand years. The World´s northernmost runestone is to be found on Frösön.

Sightings of the monster of the lake, Storsjöodjuret, are usually reported a few times every year, and the stories told send shivers up the spine of even the most sceptical rationalists.

The moose is a traditional symbol of the City of Östersund, as well as for the County of Jämtland.

Storsjöyran ranks among the very best and most prestigious of Swedish rock festivals. It dates back to the early sixties, and with some 50-60,000 visitors every summer, it is also Sweden´s biggest city festival.
